By Dr. Bonny Schumaker and Dr. Rick Steiner.  Residents from across the Gulf Coast met last week to forge ahead with formal establishment of a Gulf of Mexico Regional Citizens’ Advisory Council (GoM RCAC), whose purpose is to empower and involve citizens in the prevention of and effective response to future pollution incidents occurring from oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

Three years into the BP Oil Disaster, BP's executives and well-funded PR campaigns claim the Gulf Coast has recovered. But Gulf Coast communities are living a different reality.  This call series aims to inform media and the public of current conditions along the Gulf Coast, and connect the press with residents, advocates, and experts from diverse Gulf Coast communities.

I ran a charter boat for a company, in exchange for free housing and a boat slip for my commercial fishing boat on the company's property. On days I didn't have charters I would fish commercially.

Biloxi, Mississippi – 89 people filled a small room at the Chua Van Duc Buddhist Temple on Oak St. in Biloxi on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 18th, for a community meeting held by Asian Americans for Change (AAC). AAC, a local organization, held the event to introduce other local organizations to the Vietnamese community.
