DULAC — Sitting in her wooden rocking chair next to a window overlooking Bayou Grand Caillou, Marie Antoinette Billiot Dean worked on her last palmetto hat. The Dulac resident taught most of her relatives and their wives and husbands to weave traditional baskets, fans and table place mats. She braided quickly, her family said, because she never wanted someone's request to wait on her.
“She wanted it to be done right,” said her granddaughter Deana Foret.
