This video is of the beginning of projects intended to restore coastal Alabama marshes by creating new oyster reefs to protect them from the daily wave action which causes the loss of several feet a year.

Last week, Hurricane Katrina survivors packed two Greater New Orleans churches and voiced some of the frustration, anger, and hurt that they’ve been nursing over the “Road Home” recovery program.  The public meetings, in St. Bernard parish and New Orleans’ Ninth Ward, were held to inform residents about inequities and corruption in the housing program.


If last Saturday’s Rally for the Truth on Grand Isle, Louisiana is any indication, a lot of gulf coast residents are angry, sick, and tired.

But they are also getting energized and organized to fight for their homeland, after seven months of a woefully inadequate response to the BP oil and dispersant crisis from the “powers that be.”

This summer I have traveled the coast witnessing, reporting and documenting the effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Catastrophe.

Karen Hopkins, a Grand Isle resident and seafood worker who has become sick from dispersants, is one of the organizers of tomorrow's Rally for Gulf Change on the Louisiana State Capitol.

She recently told Bridge The Gulf what the rally is all about:

We're calling on all our local and state politicians to be there, so we can find out who's going to be working with the citizens of the Gulf Coast...
